Fitting and design

How a bathroom design should actually be worked up

A workable design starts with a survey of services and structure, not with a mood board. Measure, then decide what can move and what cannot.

Your questions answered

How long should design take?

Long enough to test at least two layouts and confirm services. Rushing this stage is where change orders come from.

Do I need a designer as well as a fitter?

Not always. What matters is that whoever designs it understands the drainage and structure constraints of your specific room.

How this is actually built

Point 1

The survey records stack position, joist direction, floor build-up, window and door swings, and the incoming supply type, everything else follows from those.

Point 2

Two sketch layouts tested against real circulation space beat one beautiful render that ignores the door swing.
