Water off, and for how long
Water to the house is usually only isolated for short periods during first fix plumbing, typically a few hours on one or two days, not the whole project. We'll tell you in advance which mornings this applies to so you can fill a kettle or do washing beforehand.
If you've got an en-suite or second bathroom, water to the rest of the house generally isn't affected at all, only the isolation valves feeding the room being worked on.
If it's your only bathroom
This is the situation people worry about most, and it's a fair worry. If there's no second WC in the house, we'll talk through options at the free design and quote home visit, sometimes that's a portable toilet arrangement, sometimes it's timing the WC removal and refit to minimise the gap, sometimes it's staying with family for a couple of nights during the roughest days.
There's no single right answer, it depends on your household, but it's a conversation we have honestly before work starts, not something you discover on day one.
Dust control
Strip-out and tiling both create dust and debris. We use dust sheets and seal doorways where practical, and skip waste the same day rather than letting it pile up in the house. It won't be completely dust-free, this is a construction job, but it shouldn't spread through the rest of the home if it's managed properly.
If you've got sensitive flooring or furniture nearby, mention it during the home visit and we'll factor in extra protection.
Pets and children
Tools, open pipework and skip access mean the bathroom itself needs to be off-limits to pets and young children throughout the project, and ideally the immediate landing or hallway too during the busiest days. Most households manage this by keeping a stairgate up or closing off that end of the house.
We're happy to work around nap times or school runs where we can, just flag it at the quote stage.
Working from home during the fit
If your home office is elsewhere in the house, most days won't disrupt you much beyond some noise during first fix and tiling cuts. If your desk is near the bathroom being worked on, or you're on calls all day, it's worth planning quieter days around the noisier stages, tile cutting and drilling are the main culprits, not the quieter finishing days.
