Bathroom mirrors: backing, edges and longevity

How it performs

Mirrors intended for bathrooms have moisture-resistant backing and sealed edges, a standard mirror will spot within a couple of years.

Fixing off the wall slightly, or on a moisture-tolerant backing, avoids trapping damp behind the glass.

Questions we get asked

Why has my mirror gone black at the edges?

Moisture has reached the silvering; it cannot be reversed.

Are mirror cabinets more prone?

Only if they are not bathroom-rated or if the interior is poorly ventilated.

Working out what is realistic in your space?

Room dimensions, the position of the window and where the waste leaves the building decide most of it. Send those and we can be specific.
