Adapting a bathroom before a baby arrives
A newborn changes how a bathroom gets used long before the child can walk, bath temperature control, somewhere to store bathing kit within reach, and non-slip flooring around the bath all matter more than any redesign. Most of this is achievable without a full refit if the timeline is tight.
What to sort out first
- A thermostatic bath filler or mixer removes
- the guesswork on water temperature far more reliably than testing by hand each time.
- A shelf or small unit within arm's reach
- of the bath stops leaving a baby unattended to fetch a towel or thermometer.
- Non-slip flooring or a bath mat around the bath area reduces the biggest real risk in this period
- which is an adult slipping while carrying a baby.

- timing it to finish well before the due date avoids dust and disruption around a newborn's arrival.
